Relocating and Accommodation
For anyone needing to relocate there is going to be many things to do. Consider that you will have to deal with your belongings, and if you have a family you can multiply the to do list by three or four. There will be school issues, pet issues, finding new banks and doctors and the list just goes on and on. Things can be even more complicated if accommodations are not in place.
Tens of thousands of professionals, and their families, must relocate for work, and often this means they will have to find a new home before they arrive. This is not always a possibility and, in turn, means a temporary accommodation.
Does this mean time in a hotel? It may, but luckily many hotel chains have caught on to the fact that some people need long-term accommodations for such times as this. A quick search on the Internet will easily illustrate how many options for such a living arrangement are available.
Of course if you are moving or relocating for business the human resources department of the company will more than likely have a relocation team that helps families and individuals find suitable housing either before or soon after arriving. This is not a decision that is in their hands, but they do help to facilitate the transition. The future homeowner or renter will need to play a strong role in the process as well.
The search for a permanent home soon after relocating should be performed with the assistance of a local and experienced real estate agent or broker. This person will probably have an existing relationship with the firm and will all ready be familiar with the needs of the employee, and their family.
What should you look for in this real estate agent? They should not be showing the employee anything outside of their price or size range. A good agent will have taken some time long before the relocation to ask the employee all kinds of questions about their housing needs. Additionally, it is this professional who will work with all of the appropriate associated agencies such as the bank, land surveyor and seller to ensure that the process goes as smoothly as possible.
Can you relocate without first seeing a home? Modern technology makes it possible to enjoy “virtual” tours of a home and a good realtor will be prepared for clients who are relocating from a distance. They will be able to offer such presentations that can literally walk a person through the property via a video presentation.
