Choosing the Right Realtor for your Big Move
For whatever the reason, you’ve decided to move. Whether you are moving across the nation or across the street, the process of buying and selling a house is one of the most stressful times in our lives.
That’s why many people opt to use a real estate agent for their buying, selling, leasing or renting needs. Real estate agents specialise in working with clients to ensure they get the best offer on their house, and find the perfect new home.
But how can you choose your realtor? If you look in the phone book there are dozens of different advertisements for not only different realtors, but also different real estate companies.
Which one is right for you?
Big or Small Real Estate Agents
Many realtors work for large multi-faceted companies that sell real estate all over the nation and all over the world. They have plenty of smaller offices in different cities and neighbourhoods that specialize in that certain area. However, many realtors also just specify in a certain neighbourhood with a smaller company.
Some realtors have as many as 50 people in their office. Other realtors work with several different assistants so they can take on multiple clients. Others still work from their home and work for themselves, or only with a few different people.
Many people simply wander into a real estate company office and are put through to the realtor on call that day. You do not choose; you let fate decide. While this is extremely popular you may get unlucky with both the company and the real estate agent on call.
If you are looking to move across the nation or to another city, a larger company is sometimes the best. This is because you can stick with the same company, and the same agent, throughout the entire buying and selling process. There is no need to switch to a new real estate company once you arrive at your new destination. A larger real estate company can also give you a better variety and understanding of the market.
However, larger real estate companies may seem a little overwhelming, especially if the office is extremely big. Some big name real estate agents are simply too busy to give you one of one attention and thus you will be working with an assistant. If this is a problem for you, then perhaps a smaller real estate company is your best bet. A smaller real estate company is also good for inter-city moves because they personally know, live and love the surroundings. They can use their upper hand knowledge to sell your house fast.
Opting for Online
Another option is to let the house speak for itself. MLS listing, or online search engine listings allow you to view different houses by different realtors on the market. If you see a house you like, you need to speak to the agent to set up an appointment and a viewing time. Browsing by house rather than by real estate agent is often the best way to connect to your perfect home, which is the main goal in the first place.
